Thanks G41M- checked the boot device priority again and 1st boot device is the Samsung CD and the second boot device is the 3M=Maxtor (presumably my hard disc drive), third Boot device is floppy drive. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. I googled for that problem which directed me to download a boot repair tool, when I choose: advanced options / retore MBR --> apply, then restart computer, It boot to win 7 without loading the grub menu.
My system: 1-SSD (250 gb OS drive- nothing but programs and the OS) 4- HDD's (all 1tb WD velociraptors- 1 used as an image and back up- 1 for scratch disk and preview files- 2 for all video files) Windows 7 pro 12gb ram (tho I installed 24gb of new ram yesterday thinking the RAM might be bad- reinstalled the original 12 until the problem is fixed) all ram tests out good. Asus p6x58d Premium MB 2- video cards- gtx 260 and gtx 460 My system crashes and reboots and gives me the 'A disk error has occurred Press ctl alt del to restart'. Half the time the SSD goes missing in BIOS, half the time it doesnt. I have to either reboot a few times to get it to recognize the drive or I have found that switching between AHCI and IDE controllers will bring it back. I originally set it up with the AHCI spec. If I do get it recognized, I then have to use the install disk and run start-up repair to get it to work- only works sometimes.

I have generally been able to get Windows running if I work at it long enough, but I know this is a prblem that needs to get figured out. During all the problems I have run disk recovery and returned it to a previous date where the problems werent happening, but after an hour of taxing the system (video editing) it starts crashing again. Sometimes it will just start happening when Im doing simple Internet browsing- but it seems to happen most when Im editing something important. I have also now run the image recovery and that seems to work great for a while. I rendered out a big project that took about 3 hours and left that going over night, it fisinhed the project fine when I woke up in the middle of the night, but when I got up this morning the 'disk error' pop up was back. I had this problem about a month ago with a previous HDD that was my OS drive.
I replaced the HDD with an SSD and did a complete clean install of everything hoping to eliminate the problem. But it seems to have returned on the SSD.
I'm not sure where to look for the problem- the SSD, Windows7, the RAM, the MB malware/virus (I have run a million Kaspersky scans all during the process everything seems fine there). I'm sorry for the long post.would love some help in where to look for the problem. Please provide the manufacturer and model of the SSD if you want assistance. Have you tried a different SATA cable for the SSD to motherboard connection?
For the disappearing SSD issue: Try doing a power cycle of the SSD. The following steps should be carried out and take 1 hour to complete. Power off the system.

Remove all power supplies (ac adapter then battery for laptop, ac adapter for desktop). Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and drain all components of power. Reconnect all power supplies (battery then ac adapter for laptop, ac adapter for desktop). Turn on the system and enter the BIOS (see your manual for the steps to enter the BIOS).
Let the computer remain in the BIOS for 20 minutes. Follow steps 1-3 and physically remove the SSD from the system by disconnecting the cables for a desktop or disconnecting the drive from the junction for a laptop. Leave the drive disconnected for 30 seconds to let all power drain from it. Replace the drive connection(s) and then do steps 4-8 again.
Repeat steps 1-4. Start your computer normally and run Windows.
The above steps were a result of: While that may not be your drive, a power cycle should be the same on all SSD drives. See how the system responds after the SSD power cycle.
Simple and I ll be fast. I tried so many times, everything without results.
